Hats Hats Hats

It’s finally getting cold here in northern Illinois and that always brings my mind and needles/hooks to hats. For some goofy reason I always want to make afghans in the summer, but fall and winter is hats(and scarves but that’s another post). So, looking online for ideas and patterns I recently found a messy bun/ponytail pattern I had to try at www.acraftyconcept.com/free-crochet-messy-bun-beanie-pattern/ and fell in love with it.

So off I go and make one, post on the FB page and get an order. SWEET! After a trip to the craft store for some yarn I have that commission done and shipped off. Next thing I know it’s an order for 9 hats, all from one client. 8 of them were for the messy bun hat and 1 for a boys hat. For that one I used this pattern https://kirstenhollowaydesigns.com/2018/12/simple-seed-stitch-beanie-crochet-hat-pattern-for-men-women-and-kids.html

Most people, including myself at times, would get sick of the same pattern after making it a few times, but I just keep cranking at it. Not only does it keep me interested, because I can now make it mostly without the pattern, but seeing how changing yarn and colors change the look is great!

A great pattern will also give me ideas on using aspects or stitches of it for my own patterns. I have some ideas in the works for using the puff stitch on other hats and possibly a scarf and hand muff to match. You will have to check back or follow me in Instagram or FB to see. The seed stitch hat I have am using as the base for a mohawk hat for a friend’s son.
