If a mouse makes a pattern, does anyone ever know?

I have a love/hate relationship with patterns. I love finding new patterns that call to me and work with them, even sometimes changing things that don’t work just right for me. I love creating on the fly my own patterns. I hate writing those patterns down. Last year for Christmas is a good example. I made 5 cowls, 4 for my daughter’s teachers. All slightly different. All beautiful! I never wrote down anything I did with them. Cowls were my obsession last winter and I know they’d do well this winter too, but I have no pattern.

Well, I have learned my lesson, I think….. Yesterday I got it in my head for some Christmas decor and decided my have plants were cold :). So I made plant cozies. My jade plants now have Santa hats, see below. There were patterns available yeah but these planters have a drainage hole in the bottom so they needed to be open.

So then I got it into my head that my round planters would be a discombobulated snowman.

So as I worked, knowing I would want to make these in some fashion later, I wrote the pattern down as the rows worked for me. Now this doesn’t mean anyone else would be able to read my ‘pattern’, but at least I know. For now… I will write them down, eventually. Maybe share them if anyone wants them. But baby steps. That’s what I have to remember. And as my older daughter would say, scheduling. But that’s another post.
